چکیده

Ozaki, Yoshikatsu (Baylor University College of Medicine, Houston, Tex.), Arwin R. Diwan, Mizuho Takizawa, and Joseph L. Melnick. Chromatography of poliovirus on calcium phosphate and its application to the identification of vaccine progeny strains. J. Bacteriol. 89:603-610. 1965.-Virulent and attenuated polioviruses were studied chromatographically with calcium phosphate as adsorbent and neutral phosphate buffer as eluent. For type 1, the attenuated LSc2ab strain and the virulent Mahoney strain were eluted at different salt concentrations. The peak of elution for the LSc2ab strain was at 0.3 m, whereas for the Mahoney strain it was at 0.05 m. No differences in elution pattern were noted with virulent and attenuated strains of poliovirus types 2 and 3. Except for a single instance, progeny strains isolated from vaccines or contacts 1 to 8 weeks after vaccination showed an elution pattern similar to the parent vaccine strain, or intermediate between the virulent and attenuated strains but still clearly distinguishable from wild-type virus. A virus population that possessed the same elution property as the virulent Mahoney strain could be separated from a number of progeny strains by chromatography. The ratio of this easily eluted population appeared to increase during the course of multiplication of vaccine virus in the human intestine. A virus population with the same elution profile as Mahoney seems to be present in the current LSc2ab oral polio vaccine, but as a very minor component. However, this component could readily be enriched by selecting for passage only those virus particles eluted at low salt concentrations. Heat-resistant, attenuated virus strains were selected from virulent type 1 strains by the Wallis-Melnick procedure of repetitive heating of progeny in AlCl(3). However, the elution pattern remained the same as that of the parent virulent virus.

Poliovirus Particles do not Form in Preinfected Cells with Reovirus

Background and Aims: Inhibition of viral growth in coinfected cells with two different viruses has been described. This phenomenon known as viral interference can occur in several virus host systems such as interference of enterovirus infection on poliovirus vaccine strains. In this study we superinfected reovirus infected HeLa cells with poliovirus to determine if poliovirus can replicate in s...

Development of New Modified Simple Polymerase Chain Reaction and Real-time Polymerase Chain Reaction for the Identification of Iranian Brucella abortus Strains

Brucellosis is primarily a worldwide zoonotic disease caused by Brucella species. The genus Brucella contains highly infectious species that are classified as biological threat agents. In this regard, the identification of Brucella can be a time-consuming and labor-intensive process posing a real risk of laboratory-acquired infection to the laboratory staff. This stud...

Evaluation of biochemical differences and Immunological effects of LPS and Lipid A extracted from Brucella strains

Background: The intrinsic heterogeneity determination in Brucella Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is important for explaining its chemicalnature and biological behavior. This is significant for practical purposes, since LPS is the most relevant antigen during infectionand vaccination. Objectives: The purpose of the present study was to compare biochemical and immunological differences of LPS and lipid ...

The role of Pseudomonas fluorescens strains in growth and phosphate concentration of Rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) . Mojtaba Yousefi Rad* and Nazila Heshmatpoure

In order to study the effect of Pseudomonas fluorescens on growth, morphological characteristics and phosphate uptake by rapeseed (Brassica napus L. Hyola 401), an experiment was performed in 2010. The study was carried out as a randomized complete blocks design with three replications. The treatments included plants inoculation by Pseudomonas fluorescence strain 11, strain 4, strain 169, the d...
